Happiness and Wellbeing
Happiness and wellbeing are built into the very fabric of our school and culture. The Middleton culture isn't by default nor chance, but by design — it's something we work hard to instil within our school community. From the outset, we wanted happiness and wellbeing to be an explicit part of our Vision and Mission, selecting Mindfulness as one of our Core Values and embedding social and emotional learning as a key part of our curriculum.
Named among the world's top 3 schools for Supporting Healthy Lives — and proud to be a Mothership School in Southeast Asia for The Contentment Foundation.
Our Mindfulness Programme
At Middleton, we understand the importance of an effective student wellbeing programme in providing our learners with the tools to manage their emotions and feelings, and to handle conflicts independently and mindfully.
We began by developing and nurturing homegrown mindfulness practices to best support our students and community, before partnering with the Centre for Mindfulness to conduct internal research examining the positive impact of mindfulness for children. After receiving significant positive results, we formed a deeper partnership with The Contentment Foundation — a US-based wellbeing curriculum offering scientifically-evidenced, philosophically grounded practices for cultivating sustainable wellbeing for life, and promoting a safe, loving and healthy school climate.
The curriculum was written in collaboration with domain experts, including developmental psychologists, neuroscientists, curriculum developers, educators, and philosophers worldwide — giving our learners a unique opportunity to develop as happy and content people, from the inside out.
The Four Pillars of Wellbeing
Delivered through our partnership with The Contentment Foundation, the curriculum is built on four interconnected pillars.
