Grade 11 to Grade 12

The Cambridge International A-Levels

Middleton's High School programme will offer the Cambridge International A-Levels (IAL) qualification, also traditionally known as Sixth Form. It is a rigorous pathway that prepares learners for university study and the globalised world, widely recognised by top universities and employers worldwide.

Focused Subject Specialisation

  • Students choose just 3 or 4 subjects to study in depth over two years, focusing on their strengths, interests, and the requirements of their intended university degree
  • Most university entry requirements specify only three A-Level grades, so specialising earlier helps students maximise their potential and achieve the best possible outcomes
  • Students still deciding on a university path can keep their options open by choosing a variety of subjects across different areas, weighing up both enjoyment and the transferable skills each subject demonstrates

Staged, Flexible Assessment

  • Students sit AS exams at the end of Grade 11, earning an AS-Level grade that stands as a qualification in its own right — worth half an A-Level grade
  • Strong AS results also allow the school to provide universities with rigorous predicted grades, which is linked to more university offers
  • Students then choose which three subjects to continue into Grade 12, sitting A2 exams that build on the first year's content; the final A-Level grade averages the AS and A2 results
  • Two examination periods each year give students the flexibility to resit and retake modules for the best possible result

Guidance Beyond the Classroom

  • A wide range of co-curricular activities — life skills and wellbeing courses, leadership opportunities, and inter-school athletics — help build a comprehensive, meaningful profile for university admissions and future employment
  • A team of experienced teachers guides families through subject selection and the university application process
  • Personalised support helps students maximise their academic potential while also nurturing personal development and career aspirations
